Topline Review of the Novo 4

Smok have recently hit the market with a new Mouth to Lung pod, the Smok Novo 4! And it is not far from the look and feel of some of Smok’s recent pod kits, such as those from the Nord and Acro pod range.
We would be as bold to say that the Novo 4 has taken all the best features from the Novo X and the Nord 4 to produce this fine piece of kit.
The Novo 4 sits somewhere in the middle when it comes to functional complexities. It lags behind Smoks RPM2 in terms functionality, but the Novo 4 is far from being a basic pod. The screen is identical to its predecessors, along with a capable battery and the usual ease of use associated with the Nord range.
Novo 4 Features
However, we feel the Novo 4 is a step away from what many see as the ideal starter kit. The Novo 4 has an adjustable airflow, interchangeable coils and power settings that can also be adjusted.
Airflow is adjusted using a small dial toward the top of the mod, this works fine but can be a bit fiddly. There are 3 holes that allow for airflow which also dictate the flow, from closed, fully open, or somewhere in-between both of those options.
The pod on the Novo 4 holds the compliant 2ml’s of e-liquid, and pods arrive in a transparent black colour, with further coloured pod options available. The pod is connected using 2 lips that grip onto the port which works fine but many, like ourselves, prefer the magnetic connections that many pod kits use. There are also 3 coils available for the Novo 4, all of which are featured as being leak proof, utilising the 3-silicone ring system. Replacing the coils is novel for this type of kit, and it is a straightforward process; just remove the pod, pull the existing coil out then just insert the new coil into the pod. Fill it with your favourite e-liquid, give it a few minutes to soak, then you are good to go.
The battery in this pod kit packs 800mAh and arrives with a standard USB-C charger. The shape and battery weight are very similar to that of the Nord range, but the charge port is not in the same position.
The display screen is on the miniature size and found toward the bottom of the pod at the front. Though small, the screen is noticeable and provides the user with the power settings, battery level along with coil resistance and puff counter data.
The only reported bug bear is using the power button, which is used to change all settings. It is a one-way button selection, so no up and down selection just upwards, which means that if you miss your ideal power setting, you must go round again to find it. This can result in a lot of clicking…
Novo 4 Performance
The Novo 4 is operated with one button, used to switch on, adjust settings and then you are free to take a draw.
The draw action is good too, not too sensitive and works well even when the airflow is set to open.
When the device if fully charged, the duration depends on your power settings. It charges fully in just over an hour and the coils do endure for at a least a week, with standard usage.
Concluding
Though a step away from the starter market it still makes for a great device for the newbie. It is basic in design and operation. As an MTL device it is perfect, so anyone looking to move away from smoking will not be disappointed with the Novo 4.
It is a durable device, with a lightweight and ergonomic feel about it.
This may top everyone’s list for when it comes to having a great pod, but it does give a good flavour and will create a reasonable cloud.
